Eagle Springs Fire Department Expands Service Capabilities With New Toyne Apparatus
EAGLE SPRINGS, NC (October 1, 2019) – Receiving delivery of their first Toyne Tailored Apparatus and first ever custom-built fire engine, the Eagle Springs Fire Department has increased their ability to provide their community with a more reliable level of emergency response services. Their pumper is equipped with the latest in emergency response technology.
The fire department’s Toyne Pumper is mounted on a Spartan Metro Star LFD chassis with a 10-inch raised roof. There is seating for six firefighters, plus an in-cab EMS compartment that provides access from inside and outside of the cab. Powering the apparatus is a Cummins ISL9 engine that produces 450 horsepower and an Allison 3000 EVS transmission. Toyne built the body with welded stainless steel.
For fire suppression, the pumper is equipped with a Waterous CSU pump, capable of moving water at 1,500 gallons per minute. The pump utilizes a Fire Research Pump Boss pressure governor. Water is stored in a UPF 1,000 gallon tank. The front bumper is outfitted with a 1.75-inch discharge and hosewell.
Further customization includes Fire Research telescoping lights and Whelen lights (warning lights, brow light, and arrow stick). Designs called for a slide-out floor dry compartment and wheel well storage that is capable of housing eight SCBA air cylinders.
“The experience of working with Toyne was wonderful and very easy,” said Fire Chief Michael St. Onge of the Eagle Springs Fire Department. “We were very impressed with the level of craftsmanship that went into building the truck.”
Established in 1952, the Eagle Springs Fire Department protects 65 square miles of rural farm and residential area in and around Moore County, North Carolina. Currently, the department has 35 members that are predominantly volunteer firefighters and maintains a fleet of eight apparatus. On average, the department responds to 325 calls annually.
This Toyne Pumper was sold by Tracy Melton from the Melton Fire Group, an authorized Toyne dealer based out of West Jefferson, North Carolina.
