BREDA, Iowa The Nashville Fire Department responds to more than 100,000 emergency calls per year. Due to the Nashville, TN, population and number of emergencies, Nashville is in the ‘top 20’ fire departments in the United States. Because of this large responsibility, the department has entrusted Toyne Fire Apparatus to engineer an additional 10 pumpers for their expanding fleet.

The conversation began when the department reached out to Toyne Authorized Dealer, Gulf States Apparatus Sales, LLC for a list of five reference departments. Gulf States’ representative John Lovell opened up the entire Toyne customer list to Nashville who called on customers for their feedback on Toyne apparatus.

“Testimonials from our customers helped make this deal happen,” said Toyne Product Support Coordinator, Bill Bird. “We’ve always prided ourselves on building high-quality fire apparatus and this just goes to show how powerful word of mouth advertising truly is.”

Thanks to an overwhelmingly positive response from Toyne customers as well as results from in-depth research of industry-leading apparatus manufacturers, the Nashville Fire Department contracted the Iowa-based manufacturer Toyne, Inc. to deliver multiple orders. In 2015, Nashville accepted delivery of 13 Toyne Pumpers. An additional order of 10 pumpers was fulfilled in May 2017, bringing the department’s Toyne fleet total to 23. But that isn’t the end of the Nashville- Toyne relationship.

The Nashville Fire Department signed a five-year commitment to purchase new pumpers, that are needed in that time period, from Toyne. “The amount of trust that is placed with our team is why we are dedicated to all of the brave men and women who serve our communities,” said Michael Schwabe, president and CEO of Toyne, Inc.

Schwabe went on to say, “The Nashville Fire Department trusts us to build quality apparatus so they can effectively respond and protect their community and their citizens. That means the world to us. We are driven to do the best we can for all of our customers, from the build to ongoing service, because they put their lives on the line for others, every day.”

Nashville’s Toyne Pumpers have been built on a Spartan Metro Star MFD 10 inch raised roof cab and chassis. Each apparatus is powered by a Cummins ISL 450 hp engine and driven by an Allison 3000 EVS transmission. Maximizing equipment storage space and fire-fighting power, Nashville’s Toyne Tailored Apparatus are equipped with a Hale Qmax-XS 1500 gpm pump and UPF 750 gallon tank. Also included is an Elkhart 240-125P Class A foam system and Whelen LED telescoping lights.

Lovell added, “All of us at Gulf States Apparatus Sales are proud to be part of the Toyne dealer network. Toyne is a quality, family-owned business with hands-on owners who have built a reputation of engineering quality apparatus and providing great customer service. Their drive and commitment to building long- lasting relationships truly sets them apart in the fire industry and that is reflected in the fact that the dealers, the firefighters and the emergency personnel all become members of the Toyne family.”
