TOYNE IS BUILT TO TAKE THE CALL
Working with good people—and reliable equipment—is also vital in public safety. For more than 70 years, Toyne Inc. in Breda has supplied high-quality emergency fire vehicles for first responders.
"Everything we do is customized," said Mike Schwabe, the company's president. "Our flexibility to make a higher grade and more customizable apparatus for each customer's specific needs is a big advantage over the competition."
What began in 1942, as a small custom fire truck business has become one of the fastest-growing fire truck manufacturers in the country. By combining top-tier materials and technology with expert craftsmanship, Toyne has attracted a customer base that ranges from small-town volunteer fire departments to professional fire departments in metropolitan areas.
"We're just really starting to get noticed throughout the country," Schwabe said. "There's a lot of untapped potential in many areas."
Walk into the Toyne assembly shop, and you'll find fire trucks in all states of construction. Starting with simple pieces of sheet metal and ending with heavy-duty, fully equipped machines. Toyne's 43 employees build each truck just the way the customer wants it. Every detail is exactly as it should be, down to the last coat of paint and final caulk line.
"The quality, skills and work ethic of the team here is incredible," Schwabe said. "Our employees help Toyne provide the quality and dependability that our customers have come to expect. A real sense of pride goes into every one of our trucks."
It's a plus that Iowa's central location is ideal for delivering fire trucks to both the East and West coasts. "The most satisfying thing about this job is working with our customers," Schwabe said. "When we finish a truck for a fire department, we've just gained a new group of friends."
